Specialist expertise in an accessible form: how to present an academic author to a broad audience
The Foundation for the Production and Translation of Dutch Literature (NLPVF) is holding its fifth international non-fiction conference on 14th and 15th May.
Are taboos really necessary? How much should individuals be protected? Should publishers be motivated by profit or ethical considerations? Reflections, too, on Silvio Berlusconi, Rabelais, Osama bin Laden - and the insulting of an English tourist. Panellists consider the power of guilt, the nature of myth - and draw a line at a tale of necrophilia. They also focus on the role of translators: can a translator interpret a text in order to stop a writer looking bad?
