Arnon Grunberg wins AKO Prize for Literature 2004

With his novel De asielzoeker (‘The Asylum Seeker’) Arnon Grunberg, published by Nijgh & Van Ditmar has won the AKO Prize for Literature for best novel of the year 2003. The prize is one of the most important literary prizes in the Dutch-language area and consists of € 50,000.

Five other writers were shortlisted for the prize: Bernlef for (Buiten is het maandag (‘Outside It’s Monday’), Hafid Bouazza for Paravion (Prometheus/Bert Bakker), Pam Emmerik for Het wonder werkt (The miracle works, Querido), Kees ‘t Hart for Ter navolging (Querido) and Ilja Leonard Pfeijffer for Het grote baggerboek (De Arbeiderspers).
