Debutant Elvin Post wins Golden Noose

The prize for the best Dutch-language thriller, ‘The Golden Noose’ (De Gouden Strop), has been won by newcomer Elvin Post with his novel Groene vrijdag (Green Friday). The jury praised the way in which Post succeeded in formulating an elegant plot. The characters are colourful and true to life, and the main protagonist evokes sympathy as well as compassion. (…) It is a thriller in which the police scarcely show their faces and which is completely atypical of Dutch crime narratives.

Just as was the case with previous winners, the NLPVF will compile a promotion dossier on this book. Besides Post, the other nominees were: René Appel with Misbruik wordt gestraft (Misuse will be Punished), Patrick de Bruyn with Verminkt (Mutilated), Saskia Noort with De eetclub (The Gastronomic Club), and Esther Verhoef with Onrust (Unrest).

After completing his education, Elvin Post (1973) worked for a literary agency in New York. He is currently a freelance journalist, working for the Dutch daily newspaper Algemeen Dagblad among others. He lives with his American wife and their daughter in Rotterdam.
