Seminar on crime fiction

An international seminar on crime fiction will be held in the Rode Hoed in Amsterdam on Sunday 3 October. The seminar is an initiative by crime fiction author Charles den Tex, and is sponsored by the Nederlands Literair Productie- en Vertalingen Fonds. The programme includes lectures by the English crime writer Mark Billingham (on the theme of ‘crime novel versus literary novel’), by the professor of comparative literary studies Hans Bertens (on American crime fiction and its social relevance), by university teacher Ruth Morse of the Université de Paris, and by the literary reviewers Lindsay Duguid (Times Literary Supplement) and Sarah Verroen.

Furthermore, the American author and university teacher Jim Madison Davis will join a panel that also includes Jacob Vis and publisher Diny van de Manakker (De Boekerij), to deliberate on the role of crime fiction in the definition of national cultural identity / the role of the crime fiction in defining national cultural identities. Various Dutch crime fiction authors, such as René Appel, Roel Janssen, Jacob Vis, and Jac. Toes will also attend the seminar.
