David Colmer on the shortlist for Oxford-Weidenfeld Prize
The Twin, David Colmer’s translation (published by Harvill-Secker) of Boven is het stil by Gerbrand Bakker is one of the six books that have a chance of winning the Oxford-Weidenfeld Translation Prize 2009. The chairman of the jury described the quality of the recent prose as ‘exceptionally strong’ and regarded the shortlist as proof of the essential role that small publishing houses, in conjunction with larger publishers who already publish translated books, play in making important European literature available. The prize will be awarded to the winning translator or translators at a dinner at St Anne’s on 10th June.
