Literary manifesto
The NLPVF participates in the so-called Boekenoverleg (Book Consultations), in which all commercial and non-commercial organizations that are engaged in literary activities in the Netherlands are represented. The Boekenoverleg has compiled a manifesto on the importance of literature, and has linked this to a robust literary policy in which the Departments of Education and Culture ought to combine forces. This manifesto, entitled De Uitkijkpost van de Literatuur (‘The Watchtower of Literature’), was presented to the Culture Council on 22 November.
The manifesto provides a view of the general situation by means of themes such as the value of a vibrant writing, translation and reading culture, the stimulation of reading and literary education, developments on the Dutch book market, and Dutch literature in the language community, Europe and the world. The manifesto is accompanied by a memo in which concrete recommendations are made.
The manifesto and the accompanying memo can be downloaded from the website of the Koninklijke Vereniging van het Boekenvak, www.kvb.nl (Royal Association For the Book Profession).
