Prijs der Nederlandse Letteren 2009 for Cees Nooteboom
The Prijs der Nederlandse Letteren (Prize for Dutch Literature 2009) has been awarded to Cees Nooteboom, for his entire oeuvre. The jury describes this oeuvre as profound and philosophical and regards these qualities as the reason why Nooteboom’s oeuvre is so esteemed abroad.
The great merit of his travelogues, and also of his novels, is that they are historically genuine yet never purely realistic.
The Prize consists of a sum of 40,000 Euro and will be presented to the writer this autumn.
