Theo Thijssen Prize 2009 for Ted van Lieshout
The Theo Thijssen Prize has been awarded to Ted van Lieshout, for ‘the high-quality oeuvre’ that he has built up as a poet, writer, illustrator and book-maker. This three-yearly prize honours the oeuvre of a writer of children’s and juvenile literature.
From the jury report: ‘In the poetry of Van Lieshout, simple words acquire a wholly special meaning and that makes reading his poems a real experience. Everyday things are often articulated in an original way. Van Lieshout plays with words, weighs them up, abandons excess language, offers hope, and evokes haunting images.’
