Van Reybrouck and Arion to be the first residents of the Writers’ Residence

David van Reybrouck and Frank Martinus Arion will be the first occupants of the Writers’ Residence in Amsterdam. David van Reybrouck, author of ‘De plaag’ (The Plague, Meulenhoff 2003) and novel in progress ‘Slagschaduw’ (‘Cast Shadow) will be staying in the Writer’s Residence at Spui from 15 September to 15 December and Frank Martinus Arion, author of for instance ‘Dubbelspel’ (Double Play, De Bezige Bij 1973) will be in the apartment at the Geldersekade from 10 October tot 17 November.

Both authors will be present at the festive inauguration of the Writer-in-Residence programme on 13 October. The residency is an initiative of the Foundation for the Promotion and Translation of Dutch Literature (NLPVF) and the Dutch Foundation for Literature in cooperation with the University of Amsterdam (UvA) and the Athenaeum bookshop.

In 2007 the following authors will be in residence in Amsterdam: Elif Shafak (Turkey), Olga Tokarczuk (Poland), and Jens Christian Grøndahl (Denmark). On 13 and 14 October these writers will take part in the symposium Writing Europe – In Search of European Literature in De Balie.
