An Elephant Came By - 24 Dutch illustrators
The Foundation for the Production and Translation of Dutch Literature (NLPVF) has compiled an exhibition of illustrations from picture books. From the spring of 2010 onward, the exhibition will embark on a worldwide tour. The aim of this exhibition is to request global attention for the quality and diversity of Dutch illustrations, design and (picture) books. The exhibition will be on show in Amsterdam Public Library until 28 February 2010.
A selection has been made from more than 100 illustrations by 24 children’s book illustrators: Dick Bruna, Charlotte Dematons, Harrie Geelen, Annemarie van Haeringen, Margriet Heymans, Wim Hofman, Philip Hopman, Yvonne Jagtenberg, Ceseli Josephus Jitta, Jan Jutte, Joke van Leeuwen, Ted van Lieshout, Martijn van der Linden, Mance Post, Sieb Posthuma, Wouter van Reek, Daan Remmerts de Vries, Ingrid & Dieter Schubert, Thé Tjong-Khing, Marit Törnqvist, Max Velthuijs, Fiep Westendorp, Sylvia Weve, Fleur van der Weel.
Ted van Lieshout wrote the texts of the accompanying catalogue: interviews with the illustrators, a state-of-the-art essay on Dutch children’s book illustrations, and a story about an ‘Elephant that ambles through the exhibition’.
Philip Stroomberg was responsible for the layout of catalogue. The catalogue is in English, has 120 pages, is in full colour, and measures 33.5 x 24 cm.
