Another prize for debutant Gerbrand Bakker

After the Gouden Ezelsoor, the prize of the Grafische Cultuurstichting (Foundation for Graphic Culture) for the best-sold literary debut, it was announced this week that Boven is het stil (‘It Is Silent Up There’) has also be awarded the DebutantenPrijs (Debutant’s Prize).

At public libraries, readers’ panels and groups as well as individual readers chose Bakker’s debut novel from a list compiled by a jury containing a total of five novels: Zwartzuur (Black Acid) by Anneloes Timmerije (Augustus), De Parbo-blues by Tessa Leuwsha (Augustus), Excuses voor het ongemak (Excuses for the Inconvenience) by Hans Hogenkamp (Nijgh & Van Ditmar), Grote acht (Big Eight) by Vrouwkje Tuinman (Nijgh & Van Ditmar) and Bakker’s novel. The DebutantenPrijs is worth a sum of € 4,500.
