Eureka Prize goes to Mineke Schipper
The Intermediair Eurekaprijs 2005 for the author of the best Dutch non-fiction book in the field of knowledge and science published in 2004 has been awarded to Trouw nooit een vrouw met grote voeten by Mineke Schipper.
The jury praised the book as a ‘revealing and simultaneously exceptionally hilarious book. (…) Via the smallest literary genre – the proverb – the Professor of Intercultural Literary Theory at Leiden has demonstrated how the world thought, and occasionally still thinks, about women.’
In the meantime, the rights of the book have been sold to Yale University Press ( UK / USA), Oceano (Spain), Eichborn (Germany), New Star Publishers (China), and Astrel (Russia). The book was previously nominated for the Katharine Briggs Folklore Award 2004, a prize set up to promote the study of folklore. The Eureka Prize is an annual award conferred under the auspices of the Nederlandse Organisatie voor Wetenschappelijk Onderzoek, NWO, (Netherlands Organization for Scientific Research).
