David Reid Poetry Translation Prize

Subtext Translations announces a prize of € 750, to be awarded twice yearly, for an outstanding translation of a well-known Dutch poem. Known as the David Reid Poetry Translation Prize, the award commemorates David A.S. Reid (1929-1982), who was an inspiring teacher and a gifted translator.

Twice a year, on 1 September and 1 March, the title of the chosen poem will be posted on several e-mail forums at midday. The deadline for the translation is one month later: on 1 October and 1 April respectively. In principle, all the translations submitted will be posted on the Subtext Translations website. By submitting a translation the translator has agreed to publication in this form. The translator retains the copyright.

The Jury will consist of a changing panel of four people: a lecturer at a Dutch university, a professional Dutch-English translator, a published British poet and a coordinator. The Jury’s decision will final and will be posted on the same e-mail forums on 1 November and 1 May.
