Provoost promotes In the Shadow of the Ark
The English translation of the De arkvaarders by Anne Provoost will appear in the USA and Canada at the end of this month. The world rights to the book were bought by Scholastic Inc. (publisher of J.K. Rowling) in 2002. The UK (Simon&Schuster), Australia, and New Zealand (Hodder Headline) will follow later this summer.
On 27 June, In the Shadow of the Ark will be presented in Orlando, Florida, during the congress of the American Library Association (ALA). Provoost will read to a public of 450 booksellers at a literary brunch. On 28 June, she will meet the press and independent book traders in New York. On 29 June, she will hold a lecture in the Library of Congress in Washington. In the Shadow of the Ark will appear not only as juvenile literature but also as an adult book (Berkley Books). Taking a first review as a yardstick, a successful future seems to await the book: ‘Exquisitely detailed and intelligently written, this is a young adult novel only in the broadest sense; no one would blink if it appeared on an adult list.’
De arkvaarders was translated into English by John Nieuwenhuizen, whose previous translations include Vallen and The Baboon King by Anton Quintana, for which he won the Mildred. L. Bachelder Award in 1999.
