Tomas Lieske wins VSB Poetry Prize 2007

The fourteenth VSB Poetry Prize has been awarded to Tomas Lieske for the collection entitled Hoe je geliefde te herkennen (How to Recognize Your Loved One). The jury chose ‘the collection bursting with linguistic delight, the collection in which one register after another is pulled open with the greatest of ease, the collection that is simultaneously playful and virtuoso, the collection that cherishes, like a fragile egg, the mystery that keeps us going, the collection that paints the excitement and joy of love in an inimitable way’.

Besides Lieske, the other nominees were: Al Galidi (De herfst van Zorro, Zorro’s Autumn), Dirk van Bastelaere (‘De voorbode van iets groots’, ‘The Herald of Something Grand’), Anneke Brassinga (Ijsgang, Ice Setting), and Joke van Leeuwen (Wuif de mussen uit, Wave the Sparrows Goodbye). The VSB Poetry Prize is the most important poetry award in the Dutch-language regions and consists of a sum of € 25,000 and a sculpture.
