Dutch poet Martin Reints is featured at Poetry International Web, in the new November edition of the Dutch Domain.
His poet’s page now contains sixteen poems in the original Dutch version and in English translation by John Irons, biographical and bibliographical information, useful links and an interview by Marjoleine de Vos, translated by John Irons.
Two recent collections of Dutch poets in English translations have been shortlisted for the Popescu Prize in the UK. In 2007 Rutger Kopland’s What Water Left behind (Waxwing Poems, 2005), translated by Willem Groenewegen, was the first book of translated Dutch poems to be shortlisted for the prestigious prize. Now at the 2011 edition of the prize two out of six nominees are Dutch: Ramsey Nasr’s Heavenly Life (Banipal Books, 2010), translated by David Colmer, and Toon Tellegen’s Raptors (Carcanet, 2011), translated by Judith Wilkinson.
The Brockway Prize for poetry translators has been awarded to the French translators Jan H. Mysjkin and Pierre Gallissaires. Together they translated the work of many Dutch poets. The jury was particularly impressed by their translation of the poems of Gerrit Kouwenaar (in Une odeur de plumes brûlées, published by Comp’Act, Chambéry 2003) and Paul van Ostaijen (in Le Dada pour cochons, Textuel, Paris 2003).
Dutch poet Maria van Daalen is featured at Poetry International Web, in the brand new January edition of the Dutch Domain.

Dutch poet Jan Baeke is featured at Poetry International Web, in the new October edition of the Dutch Domain.
His poet’s page now contains 11 poems in the original Dutch version and in English translation by Willem Groenewegen, biographical and bibliographical information, useful links and an interview by Marte Kraan, translated by George Hall.
In the fourth round of the David Reid Poetry Translation Prize it was up to the candidates to translate Gerrit Achterberg’s Dutch poem ‘De dichter is een koe’ in to English. David Colmer’s translation ‘The Poet as a Cow’ won this round, followed closely by Paul Vincent’s ‘The Poet is a Cow’. According to the jury, Colmer’s version shows ‘the mild bemusement of Achterberg’s poem,’ and ‘flows with much of the fluency and variation of the original’.
Eight young poets from the Netherlands and Germany will translate eachother’s poems and present the fruits of their labour during four poetry programs in Berlin and Amsterdam: on Tuesday, May 20 (in Berlin; LiteraturWERKstatt), Thursday, May 22 (in Amsterdam; Perdu), Tuesday, June 3 (in Amsterdam; Goethe Institut) and Thursday, June 5 (in Berlin; LiteraturWERKstatt).
Dutch poet Maria Barnas is featured at Poetry International Web, in the new March edition of the Dutch Domain.
Maria Barnas will be one of the Dutch poets participating in the 39th Poetry International Festival in Rotterdam this year, from Saturday June 7th until Friday June 13th. Along with this year’s other Dutch festival poets, Barnas will be featured more extensively in the next Poetry International Web edition in June, but as a sneak peek we hereby present eight of her poems, translated by Donald Gardner and Antony Dunn.
Dutch poet Menno Wigman is featured at Poetry International Web (PIW), in the new December edition of the Dutch Domain. This new issue offers interesting information and nice links, as well as ten poems by Wigman with English translations by John Irons, and a character sketch of the poet by Dutch journalist and writer Martijn Meijer.
The autumn issue, entitled Dreams of Elsewhere, of the British poetry magazine Poetry Review is accompanied by the supplement Contemporary Dutch Poets, which presents nine Dutch poets. The aim of the magazine is to present its readers with poetry written outside the United Kingdom and to place British poetry in an international context or, as chief editor Fiona Sampson writes in her editorial, ‘International writing is the context of excellence in which the best British poetry sits; Poetry Review is committed to this vision’.
